Head coach Bill Odell completed his 17th season at Azusa Pacific in 2007-08. Among NAIA programs profiled at CBSAguide, Azusa Pacific ranks fifth in winning percentage over the last eight years. Inheriting a program that had had seven losing seasons in the previous eight when he arrived in 1991-92, Odell has turned Azusa Pacific into one of the most respected programs at the NAIA level. In his first year he posted a 17-14 record while placing second in the conference. After his initial season, Odell's teams have racked up thirteen first place finishes -- in one of the most difficult conferences in the nation! His overall record through 17 seasons is an impressive 478-122. No other four-year school in California has posted a higher winning percentage over the last 16 years. During that time, the Cougars have made 16 NAIA appearances. Prior to coming to Azusa Pacific, Odell was a succesful high school coach (Millikan High, Long Beach). A former high school standout, Odell played at Westmont College (Santa Barbara) where he was an All-NAIA District guard. In 2007-08, Azusa Pacific posted a 24-11 record and advanced all the way to the Elite 8 before getting upended by Mountain State.
