Augustana College is a small liberal arts college founded by Swedish immigrants in 1860. Head coach Grey Giovanine completed his ninth season at Augustana in 2007-08. Though Grey had to endure a losing season his first year, he has since produced eight consecutive winning seasons averaging 20 wins per year and making four NCAA appearances. Giovanine came to Augustana in 1999-00 after coaching at Lamar (D1) for six seasons. Giovanine played collegiately at Central Missouri. In 2007-08, he led the Blue and White to a 23-6 mark and second round appearance in the NCAA tourney, losing to Washington University.

Augustana plays in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (www.cciw.org.index) which is comprised of eight schools. The CCIW is generally considered one of the more competitive D3 conferences. League play can commence in early December with non-conference opponets mixed into the schedule. After a two week break, league plays picks back up in January. Augustana plays each team twice, home and away, for a total of 14 games. Games are often played on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. The conference winner receives and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Currently, the CCIW does not have a post season tournamnet.
