Head coach Dave Wilbers completed his first season at ArkansasTech in 2007-08. Wilbers took over from Todd Schafer. Wilbers is the third coach in the last six years since Joe Foley, who during 15 seasons produced the highest winning percentage of any women's D2 team in the nation. (Technically, Tech should be excluded from being listed at CBSAguide, however, the program's storied past is reason to list the program for now.) Wilbers enters his first head coaching job fresh off a six-year stint as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Oral Roberts University. While at ORU, Wilbers was responsible for recruiting three straight heralded recruiting classes that resulted in two Mid-Con Tournament championships, two Mid-Con regular season titles and two berths in the NCAA Tournament. In 2007-08, Wilber's inaugural seasons, the Golden Suns went 26-6 but lost in the second round of the NCAA tourney to Valdosta State.

Arkansas Tech plays in the Gulf South Conference (www.gulfsouthconference.org) which is the largest D2 conference in the nation, comprised of 18 teams from six southeastern states. The GSC is divided into two divisions and Tech plays in the West division. Conference play starts after Janaury 1 with games typically played on Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings. Though there are two divisions, there is no cross-divisional play. Tech plays each team twice in its own Division. The season concludes with the Gulf South tourney where all members play a double round robin versus teams in their own division. The top four teams in each division advance to the single elimination tourney and the winner is an automatic NCAA bid.
West: Delta State, Ouachita Bapstist, Christian Brothers., Harding, Southern Arkansas, Henderson St., and U. Arkansas-Monticello East: Alabama-Huntsville, Montevallo, North Alabama, Valdosta State, West Alabama, West Florida, and West Georgia.
