Head coach Charli Turner Thorne enters her 12th season at ASU in 2007-08. Thorne inherited a program in 1996-97 that had not won more than eight games in the last three years. Though she suffered losing seasons her first two years, Turner Thorne has come on strong since 2001, posting seven consecutive winning seasons, averaging 22 wins per year while making 5 NCAA and 2 WNIT tourney appearances. Prior to her taking the reins in Tempe, Turner Thorne coached at Northern Arizona for three seasons. Turner Thorne played at Stanford and got her first coaching assignment at Santa Clara University. In 2006-07, the Sun Devils posted a 31-5 record (a school record) and advanced to the NCAA Elite 8 before getting beat by Rutgers.

The Sun Devils play in the PAC 10 (www.pac-10.org) which is comprised of ten teams from four states. No conference has more NCAA team titles than the PAC 10. Currently, ASU plays a 18 game schedule with conference play commencing in January with most games played on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon. ASU will play each team twice, home and away. The season concludes with the PAC 10 tourney which includes all teams with the top six teams receiving first round byes. The tourney winner receives an automatic NCAA berth.
