Head coach Gregg Zimmerman completed his sixth season at Alderson-Broaddus in 2007-08. Zimmerman took over a good but not great program in 2001-02. In his short tenure he has led the Battlers to five conference championships while posting seven consecutive 20+ winning seasons. Not bad considering A-B has less than 800 students of which 70% are women. A former high school standout and Alderson-Broaddus alum, Zimmerman averaged 22 ppg his senior year (1976-77). In 2007-08, the Battlers completed their fourth consecutive 24+ win season (26-7) and went 17-3 in conference. The Battlers were beaten in the second round of the NCAA tourney by California (Pa).

Alderson-Broaddus plays in the West Virigina Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (www.wviac.org), one of the oldest D2 conferences. The WVIAC is comprised of 16 teams -- all but two from West Virginia. Conference play can start in early December though non-confernence opponents are scheduled until January. Currently, A-B plays each team once, and four teams twice. League games are usually played on Monday and Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Games are often piggybacked with the women's. The season concludes with the WVIAC tourney which takes all teams (top seed gets a first round bye) with the winner receiving an automatic berth in the NCAA tourney.
