How Are the Best Programs Determined?

Programs profiled at CBSAguide must meet the following minimum criteria:

1. Have a .650 (.625 for Division I teams) or better winning average record over the last eight years.
2. Have had the same head coach for the previous four years.

Exceptions: If a program satisfies the first but not the second criteria (i.e., program has a .650 or better record over the last eight years but the new coach has been head coach for less than four years) a program still qualifies if:

• The new head coach has at least four years of previous head coaching experience in which the program under his/her direction achieved a winning percentage of .650 (.625 for Division I) or better. (Previous experience must have been immediately prior to appointment as new head coach and been at a four-year institution.)

• The new head coach is the former assistant coach (same institution) who spent a minimum of four years in an assistant capacity immediately prior to appointment.

• The new head coach has a minimum of four years combined head coaching and assistant coaching experience at the same institution.

Who Decided What Information Should be on the Profiles?

A focus group of 20 senior high school recruits (10 boys and 10 girls) was used to help determine what kind of information was most important to prospective basketball recruits.

What is the Source of  Information?

Information found in the profiles comes from a variety of sources, but primarily from basketball media guides, athletic websites, sport information directors, and NCAA or NAIA record books. After information is placed into a draft profile, each school is requested to review and/or amend the profile. The process followed in obtaining and displaying this information was reviewed by the NCAA and NAIA and  found to comply with all applicable bylaws.

Are Profiles Regularly Updated?

Yes.  Updates occur at least twice a year (Spring and Fall) but schools may contact CBSAguide at any time to have changes made to their profile. Programs must maintain the above-stated criteria in order for their profiles to be updated annually. However, at the discretion of CBSAguide, some programs may be profiled even if they do not meet the above-stated criteria.

Are all Qualifying Programs Profiled?

No. CBSAguide has spent considerable time researching programs that meet the above criteria. We do not, however, claim to have identified them all.  If any institution believes it has been overlooked, please let us know. We will make every effort to get your program added to our site as quickly as possible.
